Rochester AI startup creating 3D body avatars from smartphone scans to help online shoppers find clothes that fit. BIPOC woman-owned, Launch Minnesota grant recipient.
TrueToForm is a BIPOC, woman-owned software startup that generates highly accurate personal 3D avatars from a smartphone scan to help shoppers find clothes that fit. Founded by sisters Margaret and Janice Tam, who struggled to find clothes that fit their petite frames, their shopping frustrations sparked an idea to develop software that uses body-scanning technology and predictive analytics to create virtual mannequins, or avatars. The TrueToForm scan app creates a digital avatar with precise measurements in just a few minutes. Accuracy was validated in an IRB-approved study with 300+ participants. Avatars can be viewed from multiple angles with over 60 automatically extracted measurements. Their latest product, Fitsearch, is a garment-focused search engine that provides a curated list of recommended places to shop based on body dimensions. The business relocated to Rochester in 2023 and received a $35,000 Launch Minnesota innovation grant.
